Today I review the Yashica Mat 124G medium format TLR camera. It's a stunning alternative to the more expensive Rolleiflex and I'll go through my impressions.

The Yashica Mat 124 G is a medium-format twin-lens reflex camera. It features a pair of sharp Yashinon lenses (80mm f/3.5), a built-in CdS light meter, and a classic design with a metal body and leatherette cover. The camera has a waist-level viewfinder, a crank advance for film, and a shutter speed range of 1/500 to 1 second.

The Yashica Mat 124 is the penultimate in a long line of medium format Twin Lens Reflex (TLR) cameras produced by Yashica, and is clearly a copy of the esteemed Rolleiflex TLR. The last version, the 124G, was essentially the same as the 124 except that it had gold plated contacts in the meter, hence the "G" suffix.

The 124G is a 6×6 format TLR, which means that there are two lenses: the top one is the viewing lens and has a widest aperture of 2.8 and below this is the taking lens which goes as wide as 3.5. Both lens are 80mm, because of the configuration of the lens there can be some parallax error but you only really notice this when working close up.
